Presidents of Arab Chess Federation and ASEAN Chess Confederation announce support to Mr. Makropoulos and FIDE Forward
The Presidents of the Arab Chess Federation (ACF) and of the ASEAN Chess Confederation (ACC) have sent their letters of support to Georgios Makropoulos, establishing with stronger proof than ever the frequently reported lead of the FIDE Forward ticket, in the FlDE electoral race.
Of course, it is expected that out of the 32 federations that are members within ACF and ACC, the overwhelming majority will support the FIDE Forward ticket.
Thus, we officially announce our estimation of having currently the support of 114 countries, out of 186, surpassing the 94 votes barrier for a win with 20 votes.
The facts leading to the announcements:
Around 15-17th August, both candidates for the presidency of FIDE, Mr. Makropoulos and Mr. Dvorkovich, visited Sharjah seeking the support of the Arab Chess Federation from the honorable President Sheikh Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla and other distinguished members of the ACF board. After careful consideration, the President of the ACF, decided to announce his support to Mr. Makropoulos, noting that “he can lead FIDE in the most professional manner for the next four years”.
Earlier during this summer, in June, Mr. Makropoulos had also a meeting with Congressman Prospero Pichay, the President of the ASEAN Chess Confederation and of the Philippines Chess Federation. Mr. Pichay also met with Mr. Dvorkovich in August, and although he had already nominated FIDE Forward ticket, after his meeting with Mr. Dvorkovich, he now also sends an official letter of support to Mr. Makropoulos, in his capacity as President of the ACC, stating “It cannot be overemphasized that with more than three decades of dedicated service to FIDE behind him, Mr. Makropoulos is the right man to bring stability and protect FIDE”.
The Arab Chess Federation:
The ACF is a non-profit organization that promotes chess within the Arab world and includes 22 of the member states (Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen). Thanks to the ACF, which has a big influence in the Arab States, the federations have closer relations and collaboration between them.
The ASEAN Chess Confederation:
The ACC is a regional chess organisation which intends to further the interests of chess in South East Asian Nations, as well as the interests of its member federations. It includes 10 federations (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam). Mr. Pitchay extended his support addressing the federation and saying “Make the right move. Pour out your support to Mr. Makropoulos and FIDE Forward ticket.”

We will keep talking and collaborating with all federations around the world, aiming to lay the grounds from now, for a FIDE with unity, stability, political and financial independence. We congratulate all federations for their proud resistance to political pressure and to the indecent “offers” that they receive. FIDE and the National Chess Federations are not for sale!
